About Marshall H. and Nellie Alworth Memorial Fund

The Marshall H. and Nellie Alworth Memorial fund was established in 1949 to provide scholarships to students with financial need who have demonstrated academic excellence and strong character who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in select STEM fields.

 

What Directors Do

The Board of Directors of the Marshall H. and Nellie Alworth Fund are responsible for:

 

Term length: 5 years with the option to serve an additional term for a total of 10 years,

Compensation: Directors receive a stipend for each board meeting, as well as mileage, meals, and lodging for all regularly scheduled board meetings.

Meetings: Three board meetings a year in October, April and June in Duluth, MN. Meetings are typically the 3rd Thursday of the month but can vary. In addition to board meetings, members of the board review over 100 scholarship applications in the spring to select scholars each year.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome applicants from diverse professional backgrounds and lived experiences. Our organization focuses on a 10-county region (Aitkin, Beltrami, Carlton, Cass, Cook, Crow Wing, Lake, Itasca, Koochiching, and St. Louis. We are particularly interested in candidates who live in one of those counties and have experience or expertise in:
